If you own a construction and earthmoving company, you will need to hire a water truck at some point. Watercarts are a convenient and economical way to store, transport, and dispense water for various purposes, including earthworks, mine sites, and projects of similar capacities.

These trucks are available in various shapes, sizes, and capacities, making it essential to know about them before choosing one for yourself. Even though several companies supply water carts, you should hire a watercart with the best equipment reliability, operator comfort, safety compliance, and high standard of mechanical condition.

But what are the factors you must consider while hiring a water cart? And what are the different types available for hire?

Reasons to Hire Water Trucks

You should hire a water truck if your construction site has difficulty accessing water since water trucks can carry enough water to do the job and are mobile. They can also haul other substances apart from just water, such as detergent and chemical compounds.

If there is flooding at your construction site due to heavy rainfall or melting snow, you should consider hiring them to clean everything quickly before mold or mildew on walls and floors causes even the slightest damage to the construction site.

You can hire them to move massive amounts of rubble before or after a construction project. Some also use them for cleaning up after a storm or other natural disaster because they have a large capacity.

Sizes of Trucks and Their Capacities

These are the different sizes and capacities of trucks available:

Small Water Trucks

These are usually used for smaller applications, such as private residential properties or commercial grounds. The tanks are generally around 25 to 30 gallons and have a pump capacity of up to 150 GPM.

Medium Water Trucks

Medium-sized water trucks are ideal for mid-sized cleaning operations such as industrial parks and college campuses. The tanks range from 50 to 75 gallons, with a pump capacity of up to 200 GPM.

Large Water Trucks

Municipalities and other large-scale cleaning operations often require large water trucks because they typically hold large volumes of water regularly. They have larger capacities ranging from 100 to 1,000 gallons and can operate at high pressures (upwards of 10,000 PSI).

Capacities

You can find water carts in various capacities, including 7,000, 5,000, 4,500, 3,500, 1,200, and 1,000 liters. You should understand your specific needs and choose one accordingly. For example, if your job site covers a large area, you will need a truck that can hold more than one round of water since a smaller one may not meet your needs.

Some Features You Can Find in These Vehicles

Some features that you can find in these water trucks are:

  • An automatic gearbox
  • Pre-hire checklist
  • Red and white on the cabin
  • Fully baffled tank
  • A hose extending for 20 meters
  • 3-inches high-pressure pumps
  • Air conditioning
  • Lockable battery isolation switch
  • Wheel nut indicators
  • Fire extinguisher (inside and outside)

Things to Check Before Hiring a Truck

Before hiring a truck from a truck specialist company, check their maintenance services and if they have service vehicles loaded with spare or common parts in case a truck’s part malfunctions or needs repairing.

You should ask the company if they provide truck-licensed water carts since you usually require a car license to store or hire a car classified as gross vehicle mass (GVM).

Another thing you should check is whether the trucks have Euro-5 rated engines or not, as those make it possible for workers to use them in a roofed area.

You must know these things before hiring a watercart and the features you should check during the process. Hiring an efficient water truck with advanced features, equipment reliability, operator comfort, and the ideal sizes ensures a satisfactory customer experience.
