The Beekman Hotel, A Thompson Hotel
New York
A combination of classical and contemporary architecture and a rich history make The Beekman Hotel a location for those who enjoy the finer things in life. It was one of the city’s tallest buildings in 1883. It’s where Shakespeare’s Hamlet debuted for the first time in New York City, and where writers like Edgar Allan Poe met to discuss their work.
It’s spent much of the last 80 years closed due to a fire code violation, but after significant investment and renovation, The Beekman Hotel, now a Thompson Hotel property, reopened its doors in September of 2016.
Upon entering the lobby guests can look upward and see the nine-story Victorian atrium with a pyramidal skylight. It’s no surprise The Beekman is on Condé Nast’s Hot List of the Year’s Top Opening Hotels and keeps up with other luxury hotels the city.
Il Serono Lago di Como
Lake Como, Italy
Want to live like George and Amal Clooney while visiting Lake Como, Italy? Then Il Serono is for you. Located in the small village of Torno on Lake Como’s southeastern shore, this new location stands out from the other luxury hotels in the area with its contemporary look of stone, wood, and copper.
How guests arrive is part of what sets Il Serono Lago di Como apart from the others. Guests take one of three classic wooden boats designed by Ernesto Riva to the hotel’s private beach. With only 30 suites, privacy is what draws many to this location.

Hotel William Gray Montreal

Hotel William Gray is located in Old Montreal near Place Jacques Cartier, a busy street surrounded by restaurants, shops, and markets. The location, which opened in July of 2016, allows guests to leisurely stroll, shop, and dine close to the hotel.
An eight-floor glass tower built on top of the Maison Edward-William Gray and the Maison Cherrier buildings from the 1700s adds a juxtaposition of contemporary to the historic architecture.
If a guest loves their overall experience, they can choose to live at The Hotel William Gray. The private residence includes a living room, two bedrooms, walk-in closet, guest closet, heated bathroom floors, a kitchenette, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a private terrace.
Only two months after it opened, Prime Minister Trudeau, U2 frontman Bono, and Bill Gates were spotted in a meeting, so you know this is a popular spot.
Helena Bay Luxury Lodge
Northland, New Zealand

Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay

Forty-five minutes outside of the hustle and bustle of Tangier, Morocco, the bright blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea at Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay welcome you. The stunning architecture is influenced by the Andalusian-Moorish history of the region and is reflected through each villa.
Opened in September, 2016, privacy comes in many forms at Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay. The private terraces from each room allows guests to see the longest unspoiled beach in Northern Morocco surrounded by palm and olive trees.
Nolinski
Paris, France
Bonjour! Nolinski is located on Avenue de l’Opera in Paris’s 1st arrondissement in the middle of the historic center of the city.
Opened in August, 2016, the owners asked renowned French architect Jean Louis-Deniot to transform the former office building into what Condé Nast Traveller calls, “The best boutique hotel in Paris”.
The overall look is minimalist and chic, with celestial cloud frescoes swirling up the six-story staircase.
Suites are designed as private apartments, and named after Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Marie Antoinette, and other historical figures.
The eclectic look could range from Louis XVI furniture paired with a headboard from a California beach house, a mini-bar built inside a cabinet made to look like a safe, or a 1920s-style bathroom. All of these ideas come from Deniot’s travels around the world.
Leaving Nolinski will leave you feeling “tres triste”.
Chable Resort
Mexico
Twenty-five minutes outside the city of Merida along the Yucatan Peninsula sits a world of luxury and tranquility known as Chable Resort, Mexico. Designed by Mexican architects Jorge Borja and Paulina Morán, it was awarded the name of World’s Best Designed Hotel by Prix Versailles in 2017.
Surrounded by lush green gardens, the rooms made of wood, stone, and glass walls allow guests the breathtaking view of 750 acres of the Mayan Forest.
Its incredible tequila cellar houses the largest collection in the world, while its 32,000-square-foot spa is the only one in the world within a Cenote, a Mayan cave.

This isn’t one of your typical luxury hotels. Between Yala National Park and the Indian Ocean lies Chena Huts, a five-star resort on Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Don’t be fooled by the cheeky name. The Pig is for the traveller who wants the best, but doesn’t necessarily want formal. In fact, their website boast it’s a location “Where informality rules”.
The location doesn’t disappoint. The main building is a beautiful Elizabethan manor located on 3,500 acres near Honiton in east Devon. The beauty of the huge cedar trees, lush greenery, and Arabian horses grazing on the hillside is breathtaking.
While guests will spend the majority of their time in the countryside at The Pig at Combe, they may choose to leave the property and enjoy the city life, as bigger cities are just a car ride away.
And, rumor has it, this is a favorite place for HRH Prince Charles to stay.
Katamama, Bali
Indonesia
According to Indonesian architect Andra Martin, Katamama is meant to not only be pleasing to the eye, but to start a conversation as well. His inspiration comes from the simplicity of life in the ancient village of Tenganan.
His attention to detail is evident inside and out of the hotel. The facade was designed using 1.5 million hand-pressed Balinese bricks. Handmade tiles from Java line the walls and floor. All of the timber is Indonesian grade-A teak. The wall art was made using natural indigo. With 57 suites, one restaurant, and three bars, the handmade work of local artisans is visible in every room.
