With Earth Day approaching, we wanted to use the occasion to reflect on the impact we have on the Planet – as a company, a service provider, a team, and as individuals. At SiteGround, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices with everything we do. We compiled all of our efforts to lower our impact on the environment into our Sustainability Report. As a leading global web hosting provider, we at SiteGround, have always prioritized operating in an environmentally responsible manner. Our services are the cornerstone of our sustainability efforts, and we’re committed to reducing not only our own environmental impact but also the carbon footprint of the 2.8 million domains hosted on our servers.

In 2020, we took a major step toward providing carbon-neutral web hosting services by moving to Google Cloud Platform. Our Google Cloud Platform-powered infrastructure enables us to deliver highly efficient, carbon-neutral web hosting solutions on a large scale while matching 100% of energy consumption.

Empowering Clients With More Efficient and Sustainable Websites

We believe that environmentally responsible websites rely on sustainable hosting services. To lessen the environmental impact of our clients’ websites, we continually optimize our server software and develop powerful tools that maximize efficiency and minimize resource consumption. Here are some of them:

• Custom PHP implementation that cuts the TTFB (time to first byte) and improves page load by up to 30%
• SuperCacher, which enables full-page caching and has been shown to speed up websites by up to 500%
• In-house built CDN that caches and replicates website content across multiple servers on four continents

At SiteGround, we are committed to reducing our client’s environmental impact by fostering more sustainable and efficient website management practices and educating our audiences about the digital carbon footprint. Our collaboration with environmental activist Michelle Li from CleverCarbon, a client of SiteGround and an inspiring activist for a carbon-literate society, was one of our awareness-raising initiatives. Together, we hosted a captivating webinar on the topic of “Reducing Your Carbon Footprint”.
