Verify a New Domain Registration

Verify a New Domain Registration

When you register a new domain with a gTLDs extension (.com, .org, .net, .biz, .info, etc.) and some ccTLDs, you need to validate it to prove that you are the owner of the new domain name. This is a very simple process that’s done via email.

1. Check your inbox for an email from the domain’s registrar

First, you will receive an email from the corresponding domain Registrar asking you to verify the domain registration. Please note that this mail will not be sent from SiteGround. The message will be sent to the administrative email that you have provided during the domain registration.

2. Click on the verification link in the email

In that email, you will see a verification link / button. Click on it and proceed to a page where you can review the domain contact information.

3. Verify the data within 15 days from the receipt of the email

Make sure that the information you’ve entered is correct and agree to the Terms of the Registrar. If everything looks good, click the button Verify to complete the process. The verification should be finalized within 15 days of the receipt of the email.

You may also see in your Client Area home page a notification to verify your domain like the one below. If you have already completed the verification, you can ignore that message. It will disappear automatically within 24 hours after the procedure is completed successfully. Alternatively, you can manually trigger a verification status update trough your domain management section. To do that click the View Domain button and then click the Refresh Status button for your domain.

If you fail to verify the information in this period for some reason, your domain will get suspended on the 16th day until you complete the validation. This means that you won’t be able to manage its DNS and if you have an active site with this domain, it won’t be accessible either. However, this does not mean you have canceled the registration and you have to bear in mind that the domain will be automatically renewed upon expiration at your expense.
